Property Tax Town Hall Meeting Addresses Concerns and Solicits Recommendations

November 2, 2023

Last month, the 400 North Association of REALTORS® partnered with the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce and State Representative Will Wade to host a town hall meeting to hear from Dawson County residents regarding tax assessments and exemptions. In addition to Representative Will Wade, State Senator Steve Gooch and Dawson County Commissioner Billy Thurmond joined the panel. Mandy Powers, President and CEO of the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce, served as the moderator for the discussion.

The panel reviewed the state enabling legislation, which governs the implementation of the tax and Dawson County’s current millage rate. Information regarding the tax imposed by neighboring counties was also provided.

Those attending the town hall were asked to provide their recommendations on how to improve the assessment process and how to reduce the tax burden on our state’s residents.
