Having one of the most storied political careers in Georgia history, U.S. Senator and REALTOR®, Johnny Isakson has made the tough decision to retire from elected office effective December 2019.
Battling Parkinson's Disease and a series of other health issues, one of the nation's strongest "Realtor® Champions," conceded that now is the time to step down stating, "After much prayer and consultation with my family and doctors, I have made the very tough decision to leave the U.S. Senate at the end of 2019. It has been the honor of a lifetime serving the state of Georgia. This decision pains me greatly, but I know it is the right thing to do."
This surprise announcement has Georgia Politicos in a frenzy. By retiring before his term ends, this gives Governor Brian Kemp the ability to appoint someone to serve in Sen. Isakson's seat until a special election can be held, which will most likely be November 2020. Candidates and potential appointees are quickly lining up to show why they should be Georgia's next U.S. Senator.
As the only Georgian to serve in the Georgia State House and Senate and then the U.S. House and Senate, Johnny Isakson has served the State of Georgia and Nation with integrity, honor and conviction; all while never forgetting his REALTOR® roots. We all wish "Johnny" the best and a speedy recovery.
